So you want to start a blog in 2025. Congratulations! Starting a blog is a wonderful and beautiful opportunity to grow, talk about things you love, and even make some money! These are my absolute TOP Must Dos for starting a blog.
I know there’s a ton of opinions out there about this, and some people think blogging is “dead” (it’s not, obviously, that’s why you’re here) but there is always room in the blogging community for some fresh and new ideas!
What are you passionate about and what to blog about?
Finding a topic that you want to blog about is important. It has to be something that you are incredibly passionate and obsessed with. If you blog about something you love, you’ll never have an issue thinking of post ideas or new and creative projects! You won’t be able to keep up a consistent schedule long if you’re writing about something you don’t really like. What would be the point in that? Consistent posting really makes a huge difference to anyone who reads your blog. People can tell when you know what you are talking about, too. They can also tell when you don’t really care and you are just talking to talk or just in the blogging game for the money. It’s pretty easy to tell when someone’s heart isn’t really in something.
Choose a blog name!
Choosing a blog name can be kind of challenging for a lot of people but don’t think you have to get super hung up on this. You can always decide to change it later. Yes, it could mean more work for you, but the best way to get started is to just START! There’s a lot of different domain websites you can search to find a domain that is available and a name that you like. Your name for the most part should be descriptive about what you’re blogging about, so people can know what to expect when they go to your site. Or, you can make your blog descriptive about you if it’s a more personal style. For example, my blog name “Thisblessedmama”, implies I write about my faith and being a mom but also describes myself! Take a second to think about what you are blogging about, what would be the most beneficial name for you to use to get readers and build a community, and what makes you feel excited!
Get your hosting and website setup!
In order to have a website, you have to have a host. A host is basically like the house your website will live in. It keeps it on the internet and running smoothly. For your host, I would recommend Bluehost. It’s super affordable and from my experience, runs really well. They can help you set up your blog and their customer service has always been really nice when I’ve had questions. Plus, until you start making any sort of income from your blog, it’s good to have a really affordable option. You can check out Bluehost for yourself right here. You also have to have a blogging platform, which I would only recommend WordPress if you are looking to monetize your blog. It is just the easiest overall option and every big time blogger I know uses it. From my experience, it is a really good platform that you can do so much with in terms of design and customization!
Themes and design
Next must have for your blog is a cute theme and design. There are so many cute themes on WordPress but I would recommend getting a theme off of Etsy. Etsy has a lot of really cute and AFFORDABLE themes that are completely responsive and work on mobile also! The designs are stunning, and you can also even find your own branding kit on Etsy. A branding kit will come with a color palette and a brand logo custom made for you, so you will know that everything will match and be beautiful and cohesive. How a blog looks is typically the first thing a reader will notice and will either grab their attention if it’s beautiful or make them leave if it seems messy and complicated. You can also of course always change your theme later if you want a different look, so it’s okay to change your mind!
Writing Content
Obviously, you are starting a blog, and every blog needs some good content. I would recommend having a few articles ready to post so that when you launch your website, there’s something there for people to look at. I would recommend having 3 posts ready to publish. It’s also important, like I said before, that you post consistently so people feel like they can rely on you and trust you about your topic and keep coming back. But this isn’t super important to the initial set up of your blog, as you’ll have all the time in the world to keep posting content every day!
Think about how you want to monetize your blog.
Finally, think about some ways you’d want to monetize your blog. This can be different depending on what your blog is about. Do you want to sell your own products or use amazon affiliates to sell other products? If you are a fashion blogger, do you want to use Shopify or another fashion affiliate program? Are ads something you would want displayed on your website, or no? These are good things to think about as you get started so you can have a plan and know what direction you are headed in. Well, that is all my tips for starting a blog in 2053. Hopefully you enjoyed these tips and feel really excited about getting started! Happy blogging!
I have learn several excellent stuff here. Certainly worth bookmarking for revisiting. I surprise how much effort you set to make any such great informative website.
Fantastic blog! Do you have any tips for aspiring writers? I’m hoping to start my own site soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you advise starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m totally confused .. Any tips? Thanks a lot!
Saved as a favorite, I really like your blog!
