Living out our faith in our everyday lives can seem like a very daunting task. To simply go to Mass and attend adoration is one thing, but to constantly keep God at the forefront of our minds? That’s harder. When the bills aren’t paid, the kids won’t stop arguing, dinner needs made and the floors need mopped and the sink is full of dirty dishes, who is thinking of Jesus? We should be!
Every day that God gives us on Earth is a blessing. It is another opportunity for us to get up, praise God, serve our loved ones, and bring others closer to Him. Nothing in life is guaranteed, especially not the idea that we will wake up the next morning!
Living out our faith doesn’t have to be scary or intimidating. Living our faith out can be in both small and big ways, and in private ways as well. If you have kids, you know you’re constantly being watched. Trying to do the right thing all the time can be exhausting. I know I’ve let a few cuss words and angry noises slip through my lips before. Living out our faith helps to strengthen those around us and helps us to grow in grace as well. Here are some simple ways that I try to live out my faith.
- Attending Mass as often as possible, even if it’s with little kids that are screaming and crying. God loves them, too!
- Saying a prayer with my husband and kids before bed. Saying the Lord’s prayer has become very fun for us to do together, and my 4-year-old almost has the whole thing memorized now!
- Decorating your house with Catholic decor and images. Who doesn’t love a beautiful crucifix or rosary on the wall?!
- The way that I treat people I interact with daily. Do I show them how a Christian is supposed to treat others? Am I kind and loving and gracious?
- Don’t be afraid to let others know you are praying for them! Saying these things in public can be intimidating, but it’s okay to let others know you’re praying for them or tell them you’ll say a rosary for them!
There are also ways that people can live out our faith privately. Maybe you do a private novena for a specific intention, or you have a certain prayer routine you love. Maybe you decide to do a strict fast for a period of time. One of my favorite ways and one’s that I think we need the most, is doing a Divine Mercy Chaplet whenever possible!
Living out our faith can also mean using our time and talents. Is there a talent you have that could benefit your parish or your community? Don’t be afraid to share it! Is there an organization you love donating to or talking about? Volunteer your own time! It can also be as easy as spending time with someone you love and maybe you share something with them about your faith. Maybe you tell them about a cool book you’re reading or what you’ve been reading in the Bible or a fun prayer you discovered.
There are so many different ways in which we can live out our faith. I am so proud of you if you’ve done any single one of these things. God bless!
