So you want to start your own podcast! Podcasts have been really gaining in popularity this year and there is still so much more growth to be had. Starting your own can be done a million different ways, but is generally really easy! Here I will go over everything you need and how to get started.
Equipment
Equipment can be anything from your phone to a microphone, a computer, audio editing software, sound boards, or whatever you want to add. Your podcast can be whatever you make it. Since podcasts are usually audio only, I suggest getting something to really make your audio amazing. iPhones typically have good microphones but test the quality and see if it’s something you’d like to use. If you are just starting out and not wanting to spend a ton of money, that’s a good option. There’s also a ton of really good microphones that don’t cost an arm and a leg. I will post the links to a few that I recommend!
Hosting
Hosting your podcast is something else that everyone might do different. There are a lot of hosting platforms out there, but the good thing about them is that they will distribute your podcast on places like Spotify and Apple Podcasts for you. One that I recommend is Buzzsprout. It’s super easy to work and doesn’t cost a fortune. If you are looking for something that is free, Spotify podcasts would be a good option as well! Keep in mind though, with a free host, they can take your podcast offline or do basically anything they want with it because you don’t really own it yourself since it’s free. That’s why I recommend something paid like Buzzsprout or Libsyn. Research and find out what hosting is right for you! Start recording! Starting to record can for some people be the most challenging part. Recording and uploading consistently can really help to grow your audience quickly. Also keep in mind that a lot of social media sharing will be necessary, so when you are launching your podcast, it’s good to have a few episodes up and ready for listeners! I hope that this helped make things pretty simple for you. Happy podcasting!
