Postpartum is a very interesting time for a lot of moms. Especially if it’s your first, everything can seem like a full-time job, never mind keeping up your spiritual routines. In between learning about your new baby’s personality, feeding, changing, finding some time to sleep anywhere, it can be so challenging. Despite this, there are so many opportunities for us as moms to be faithful during a postpartum period of time.
Taking care of your body during this time is especially important. After my c-sections with my 3 children, the next few days after I got home, I was strictly staying in bed nursing my baby and resting. My husband and family members took care of the other kids and made me food while I took the time to have a break and spend time with this new human that I needed to get to know. Every baby is different, and everyone’s postpartum time looks different as well. For me, I didn’t really have any bleeding or pain, so I mostly took the time to relax and just enjoy some baby snuggles.
Having faith during postpartum for me has looked a lot like:
- Quietly praying a rosary while cuddling or feeding my baby.
- Reading a book about my faith on my Kindle while baby sleeps.
- Listening to some praise music while feeding.
- Praying for my baby and my family at any opportunity.
- Spending quality time with my husband and my kids while I rest and recover, just enjoying each others presence.
- Asking for the Eucharist to be brought to my home by my priest!
- Praying for others anytime I get the chance.
- Starting a Novena or a little prayer I can say nightly for a specific intention.
Postpartum time does not mean we have to put everything about our faith on hold. We can continue to live it out every single day and choose joy! Remember during this time to always give yourself some grace and patience. You are amazing. God bless!
