Hey y’all! As time passes on, I keep on getting a really icky feeling. I just can’t help but notice as time goes on that the more and more that I look, it’s like everyone is trying to sell me something. I get it, America is a nation absorbed with consumerism, but I mean dang! It’s like I can’t watch anything without there being sales ads all over it! Even when watching some of my favorite Youtubers, they’re plugging in their courses and products and all sorts of things.
Hey, I get it, everyone needs money right now. People have to make it somehow. But here’s my question, is anyone doing anything for fun anymore? It’s almost as if everyone has decided that if you love something, you have to make money for it. Why! If you love making YouTube videos, do it, money or not! If you love writing and blogging, do it!
I started this blog because I love writing. I love having fun, I love getting my thoughts out, I love connecting with a little community of people I can chat with about these things. So then why does it feel like no one can do anything just for fun anymore? Is it because we’re all grownups and have jobs and need the money? Is it the terrible economy right now? Has the inner creativity and child just been shoved out of us for a cold, corporate, retail world? Not only that, but it’s like everyone has a course now a days that they are trying to sell. A course to teach you how to make money or make this or make that.
I miss the days of Shane Dawson back in 2008, and people just doing the things they loved because they loved it. Without making any money from it. Things weren’t really sponsored, people didn’t get paid from YouTube, they just wanted to make people laugh and share their funny stuff with the world. People just had fun.
Do you remember when people did things just to have fun?
